Compass Press Welcomes Anne Riley

We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of our newest title, Shadows of the Hidden, and welcome author Anne Riley to the Compass Press family. Shadows of the Hidden is a young adult paranormal novel. Our acquisitions manager came across Anne’s book in its first incarnation recently. After having had an agent who shopped the story around, Anne decided to self-publish the novel under the original title, The Clearing (yes it’s true, acquisitions does scout through some self-published novels for great talent). It was clear from the first read that this was a title with great potential and one that Compass Press wanted to invite into our home.

As a self-published novel, The Clearing received an overwhelming majority of four and five star reviews, and for good reason. Compass Press plans to stay true to what made The Clearing such a hit with fans and our editor plans on only enhancing the story, not altering it beyond recognition. So if you are already a fan of Ms. Riley's, never fear, she and her novel are in good hands. If you are not yet a fan, we invite you to meet Anne and add Shadows of the Fallen onto your must-read list. Here is a bit about the novel:

Natalie Watson doesn't believe the reports about the way her parents died. In fact, she's not sure she believes in much of anything these days. But after moving from her home in Georgia to her aunt's boarding school in Maine, solving the mystery of her parents' deaths is just one of several things on her mind.

When she's not fending off attacks from the popular kids or taking refuge in the pages of a novel, she ponders the rumors circulating about a certain boy in her math class... a boy with fiery red hair who never speaks to anyone.

Despite suspicions that he may have murdered his sister a year earlier, Natalie finds it impossible to stay away from Liam Abernathy - especially when he confesses to knowing something about her parents. Soon she's following him into the forest, where things happen she doesn't understand... things that shouldn't be possible....

As Liam's story unfolds, Natalie realizes she's more connected to him than she ever thought - and not everyone she counts as a friend can be trusted.

Look for Shadows of the Hidden in paperback and eBook formats this winter.

To top it all off, Eren discovers she doesn’t have to be a channeler after all - she has a choice.

As an old threat closes in and she risks ending up like her parents, she is forced to decide. Be a normal teenager and leave the legendary warrior stuff to someone else, or embrace a dark destiny?

This June Christine Fonseca is bringing us a new short novella in the Requiem series, Mea Culpa. It is a behind the scenes story the comes between her debut full-length novel, Lacrimosa, and it's sequel Libera Me (due out this fall). Here is a bit about it (SPOILER warning! If you haven't read Lacrimosa yet, this blurb contains spoilers):

Nesy’s wounds should have been fatal. Fortunately, Mikayel knew something the rest of the Council didn’t—how to counteract Azza’s attack. But it’s Zane that must carry out the task. New Title Acquired: Transcend

We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of our latest title, Transcend, by Christine Fonseca. Here is the Publishers Marketplace announcement under new deals:

Children's:
Young Adult

Christine Fonseca's TRANSCEND, pitched as Hamlet meets the Black Swan in this Phantom of the Opera thriller, in which a horrible accident leaves a young man abandoned and left for dead, his only link to sanity the love of his fiancee and the support of his best friend-an illusion that might just rip away the last shreds of his humanity and reveal parts of himself he'll wish remained buried, to Compass Press, in a nice deal, for publication in March 2013 (US).

With this novel Christine takes us in a completely different direction from her Requiem series, leading us down a path with new characters in a deep and dark new world that we're confident you'll enjoy as much as we did. Look for it to burst onto the scene in Spring of 2013.
